We headed south this morning, into the unknown and a new beginning, a new adventure and a completely new lifestyle. Life on the Road with no plan, no destination and all the time in the world to arrive at whatever location we choose next.
We set off around 10 am and I was able to take this quick (happy) snap of the car and our mini home when we pulled over for one last check – front to back and side to side – before we entered the Gateway Motorway on our way to the BIG4 North Star Holiday Resort at Hastings Point in northern New South Wales.
As promised in The Hardest Word, I had a few tears and I’m not embarrassed to say so.
This decision has been easy to make. Leaving my friends and my sister and especially our eldest daughter behind, for what feels like an undefined period of time, with no plan on when we might return to Brisvegas, has been a little emotional.
The drive down the road was uneventful, and we were very grateful for that. We arrived here at 2:00 pm and no, we didn’t drive the 137 kilometres at a snail’s pace. We had a little detour at Burleigh Heads and when we finally arrived, we discovered we were in another time zone.
We lost a whole hour, however, finally we can now live the ‘daylight savings lifestyle’ and sleep late and eat late and surf late. (Well at least Dean can be surfing late.)
I expect to have a huge sleep in tomorrow morning and not wake up until …
6:00 AM!!
Voting for the Great Chicken Parmigiana Review (or not) has now closed and the results are in.
My reviews will go ahead as the greater majority of those who voted wanting me to continue ordering my favourite pub grub and review as appropriate as we travel.
Thank you to everyone who voted.
Enjoying following your adventures (to me sleeping in would be an adventure!). How are you enjoying your new little home on wheels?

Hi Rosemary,
Glad you are enjoying following along. Life in our mini home is great, we are loving it. So far so good with only a few minor hiccups but nothing we haven’t been able to remedy.
We are in Ballina now and today is so hot with no relief in sight. I think I’ll go shopping just to be in air con – no point locking myself in the van – so shopping it is.
Bye for now

Sharing your journey with you two. We are heading in to Fremantle today, planning on staying here a little while as Denis has to fly back to Brisbane for business. Don’t know when I will ever see Brizzie again.

Hi Maggie,
I’m sharing your journey also (via Facebook) and taking note of all the lovely places we have to visit. At times I feel the same about Brisbane and I’ve only been gone four days 🙂

Sorry to deflate your bubble, but 6am EDST is only 5am standard time….you can tell I am not a fan of stupid time. I am an owl not a fowl. Thrilled that your big adventure has now really started and that you had an amazing weekend prior. Looking forward to the next bit of news….

Oh Sue,
You’re the only person to pick up on my little tongue in cheek, but rather poor attempt at humour regarding the time I would get out of bed this morning. At least I did manage a sleep in – it was 7:15 am local time and even Dean said that he couldn’t remember the last time we got out of bed so late.
I hope you continue to enjoy reading all about our adventures, just let me know if I start blogging too frequently.

Hi Deb,
It feels like an eternity has passed since making the decision, but I’m glad we allowed ourselves plenty of time to get and be organised. I’ve no doubt it will pay off. I’ve started posting recipes – check out this page. Each recipe is a downloadable Pdf that I have taken the time to write up as a result of both the condition of my book of hand written recipes and several requests from some friends after posting photos of Garlic Cheesy Potatoes on Facebook. Please enjoy. I will aim to load one new recipe each week and (just for you) I’ll make the next one something very sweet.
