Thoughts on Location No 16
Mallacoota, East Gippsland, Victoria
We arrived in Mallacotta under the impression that the park we selected would be able to accommodate us for two nights, possible three, after all it’s not peak season. What it is though is the shoulder season and are now aware that means ‘peak’ season for those who avoid the school holiday periods.
The park we wanted to stay in offer ‘pay for three weeks – stay for four’ and this meant we couldn’t stay for two nights. We could have stayed for one, but setting up and moving the following day can be a hassle. So we moved a little further down the street to another park where we were able to stay two night, or three nights if we changed our mind and wanted to stay longer.
As usual, it rained and this limited what we could do so we chose to move on after the second night.
I can’t help thinking it would have been nice to explore more of an area rich in national parks and walking tracks, particularly Croajingolong National Park. Perhaps another time.
We did have a coupe of hours of sunshine that permitted us to take a drive to Betka Beach and Quarry Beach were we took a short walk and did a little exploring.
We are now at Lakes Entrance – a little closer to Melbourne, our immediate destination, and guess what – it’s raining here too.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention: It is wonderful to finally leave New South Wales behind and start exploring another state of Australia.
So exciting that you are in VICTORIA!! Can’t wait to see you and Dad! xx

Wow, Clare, those crisp azure blues are absolutely stunning. What a feast for the eyes. And how lucky I feel that you’re so talented with a camera. The common theme I find in your work today is that I am called to travel down these paths. Your photos beckon the viewer with a ‘come hither’ tease. And oh, how I wish I could jump into your world for a day’s worth of exploration.
Cheers!

Thanx Shelley,
I am trying to photograph what I see – the big things and the little things – and I’m glad you are enjoying what I see on at both ends of the scale.
By all means ‘come hither’ and I’ll have a whiskey or two waiting for you 🙂 .

Oh yes did we have some rain yesterday – thought we were up in the far north, what with the heat and the way it hurstled out of the sky. Dry as a bone today 🙂
Love the look of those rocks – reminds me of the inukshuks we see in Canada.

Hi Cathy,
I loved the look of the rocks and have seen a few in various places. Quarry Beach was deserted when we were there and I didn’t expect to see them. Just goes to show, someone else liked being on a deserted beach also.
It was a little wet yesterday, we sat inside all day, but at least it was nice and sunny today.
