Sweet Scented Wattle

I believe this beautiful little flower is a variety of Acacia, that wonderful group of plants, shrubs and trees Australians know more intimately as Wattles, and again I believe this is the Sweet Scented Wattle, or simply Sweet Wattle.

Lacking the striking yellow of the better known Golden Wattle, or even the more famous Cootamundra Wattle, it does have a lovely sweet perfume and the shrub where I took this photo is almost overburdened with blooms. Over the last week, I’ve noticed huge clumps of them everywhere around St Helens.

(And I thought with winter looming there’d be no flowers photograph.)

Want to know more about why wattles bloom in winter?

This ABC Science Article I found is interesting and full of facts.

    1. Hi Dayna,

You’ve caught me. I can’t help snooping around the internet finding information about what I’m looking at, or in this case, what I’m photographing. Truth be know though, I just wanted to know what the flower was. 🙂
