Initial Thoughts on Location No 35
Basin View, Illawarra Region, New South Wales
It is hard to fathom that Dean and I have been in Basin View for a little over four weeks already. It’s almost as if the world has continued around us while we’ve been standing still.
We’re left shaking our heads and asking “Where did the time go?”
Over the last four weeks we’ve been a little somewhat inactive. We have had a few trips to the beach including Mollybook, and Hyams Beach, and Dean has had a few good surfs at Bendalong, but I have to say, the weather hasn’t been very nice at all.
Much like the entire south-east coast, or I guess I should say, Australia’s entire south-east, we’ve had a lot of rain and days of warmth and sunshine have been very few and far between.
As we committed to another 12 weeks (or thereabouts) house-sitting here in Basin View, we are hoping for days of finer weather to go bushwalking in Moreton, Jerrawangala, and Budawang National Parks, and I know you might be thinking ‘Go walking in the rain!’
Well, thank you, but no thank you. I, we, may love bushwalking, but deem it to be a dry weather activity.
So in the meantime, while we patiently wait for sunny days, we feed the chooks (chickens), Dolly Parton and Shirley (such wonderful names for the girls) and make sure the fish have food and top up their water when needed, though given the amount of rain we’ve had, we don’t need to do that very often. I water the pot plants and photograph the flowers, trying to hone my skills with my camera, such as the picture of lavender above. I can see I have a lot to learn.
I’ve picked some fruit and, while making juice, contemplated cooking a lemon curd tart. Dean loves my Lemon Cheesecake because of the overpowering lemon tartiness, so I guess a pastry shell full of tarty lemon curd could potentially bump the cheesecake off its pedestal. We’ll see.
The proof will be in the pudding so to speak and, as its overcast and cold and clammy again today, turning contemplation into cooking might happen before the days out.
