This weeks Photo of the Week was taken Friday
(July 31, 2015)
An older definition of a Blue Moon is the third of four full moons in a single season.
In modern times, the second of two full moons in a calendar month is often called a Blue Moon.
This month we were lucky enough to see the Moon full twice. The first time was on July 2, and the second time was on July 31. This is the first blue moon we have seen since August 31, 2012 and will have to wait until 2018 for the next one, actually, the next two with a rare event seeing a blue moon on January 31, 2018 and then again on March 31, 2018. Wow!
For once though, the skies were clear on Friday night and I was able to stand outside and enjoy gazing up at the Moon.
The next big lunar event is a Total Lunar Eclipse on October 8, 2015 and I hope the skies will be clear on that night also.
