This weeks Photo of the Week was taken Friday
(July 31, 2015)

An older definition of a Blue Moon is the third of four full moons in a single season.
In modern times, the second of two full moons in a calendar month is often called a Blue Moon.
This month we were lucky enough to see the Moon full twice.ย The first time was on July 2, and the second time was on July 31.ย This is the first blue moon we have seen since August 31, 2012 and will have to wait until 2018 for the next one, actually, the next two with a rare event seeing a blue moon on January 31, 2018 and then again on March 31, 2018. Wow!
For once though, the skies were clear on Friday night and I was able to stand outside and enjoy gazing up at the Moon.
The next big lunar event is a Total Lunar Eclipse on October 8, 2015 and I hope the skies will be clear on that night also.
Such a beautiful shot. I too saw that moon but in Pennsylvania. We had many campfires under the moon. Beautiful picture!

I live my life so much more by the moon than I do the sun. It’s likely because I’m always hiding from the sun. The moon creates this beautiful “writerly” mood, and I work best deep in the night anyway.
This last full moon was so lovely – I followed it’s progress for the two weeks leading up to it, and then took the hound outside to sit and sing by it for a few minutes before turning in for the night.
He has a truly lovely voice. ๐

Hey Shelley,
What a lovely image, the two of you singing ๐ As for me, I love the Moon and have to restrain myself from posting more photos of it. Of late it has been cloudy every time there is a night time (or day time) astronomical appearance. It was so lovely to actually see a specific event and even more so that it was the Moon putting on the show.
