Sturt Dessert Pea
Sturt’s Desert Pea

I’d like to say I photographed this famous little flower in the desert somewhere, but I have to be honest and confess I was at the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden on the north side of Port Augusta.

I had a sneaky feeling, even as we do venture north into the desert, that the wildflower season is long gone.Β  So while Dean sat and enjoyed the ‘big race‘, I took myself off the enjoy a walk around the gardens, with the hope that I would see the Sturt’s Desert Pea.

It was the last flower I saw as I was leaving and thank goodness I turned left instead of right.

    1. And we’ve been in the arid lands for a week now and no sign of one. I’m so glad I saw it at the botanic gardens.

    1. Thank you Gill,

I’ve still not seen one in its natural habitat, but that may change over the next day or two.

    1. Hey Badfish,

No, the black thing is referred to as the ‘boss’ of the flower. Not sure what that is but I think it is related to the organs and the pollination process leading to the (eventual) production of the peas. The info on Wikipedia is interesting to read if you have a minute or two. Thanx for stopping by.
