Photo of the Week

This weeks Photo of the Week was taken Saturday
(October 24, 2015)

Dean and I had taken a drive to the coastline at the very end of South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula to a little cove called Fishery Bay.  Truth be told, Dean was seeking a wave and although he didn’t find a rideable one, our first stop along the way was Sleaford Bay where we saw Emu in the wild.

I honestly thought we’d see countless Emu in the Outback, but this was not the case, and this is the first time I’ve seen them in the wild.  Sure I’ve seen them in cages at a zoo before, and briefly glimpsed a mother with three young along the road as we headed north from Port Augusta, but this was different.

We came a cross a mob of them and it was easy to see how their plumage allows for them to hide amongst the vegetation.  These beautiful Australian native birds are very camera shy and they quickly ran away at the first sound of an intruder – in this case our approaching car.

We stopped and waited for them to settle down and I was happy I was able to get a few shots, although the wind and their movement prevented the images from being clear.

All in all though, this is my Photo of the Week this week.
