Dear Jamie

Thank you Jamie Oliver,

For teaching me I can.

Try my hand at something new,

And bake a Christmas ham.

I combed the shops, high and low,

For things I’ve never known.

For items dried and shrivelled up,

And things that trees have grown.

I mixed them up, and poured then on,

And put the ham to bed.

All snug and wrapped in plastic film,

I did just like you said.

I’ve never baked a ham before,

And I was feeling shy.

About the way it would turn out,

But now I don’t know why.

For come the day of families,

Of feasts and love and more.

I placed it on the oven rack,

And gentle closed the door.

And soon the most amazing smell,

Began to fill the room.

And when the ham was glazed and cooked,

I removed it from its tomb.

With cinnamon and star anise,

Black pepper, salt and spice.

Nutmeg, hoisin sauce and honey.

We drooled for just one slice.

So thank you Jamie Oliver,

The Christmas ham was great.

The trimmings almost went untouched,

With ham on every plate.

  1. Thank you for this lovely Christmas/Holiday poem:) You are the first comment I am typing on my Christmas tablet I asked Santa for:) When I logged in on WordPress and the “reader” pulled down, there was a “tag” that said “Christmas”. I started reading on fighting and more! So I quickly changed to my ” Favorites” list, and your delightful ham roasting with family gathered round, restored my peace of Christmas! Your ham is the talk of the town! Merry Christmas:)

    1. Oh Denise,

I’m so glad you found my little ditty about using Jamie Oliver’s recipe to make a wonderful baked ham. 🙂 🙂 It was so delicious and today we are going to enjoy the leftovers.

Your kind words have given us all a smile and a giggle. And fancy getting exactly what you asked for from Santa – you lucky girl.

Merry Christmas from Australia – Clare
