This week’s Photo of the Week was taken last night.

(A short story first.) On August 3 last year, the photo I posted for Photo of the Week was that of a Blue Moon. It was the modern interpretation in so far as it was the second full moon in a calendar month – July 2015.
The older definition of a Blue Moon is “the third of four full moons in a single season“. This, however, depends on where you live and, in my thinking, is obviously a northern hemisphere thing because where we are in Australia, our current season ends on May 31.
This leaves no room for another full moon before we officially enter our next season – Winter.
All that aside, EarthSky goes on to say that “Someday, you might see an actual blue-colored moon”.
Well, knock me over with a feather and colour me startled. Click to enlarge the following photo I took last night and look closely at the top edge.
Can you see a distinct blue hue across the top of the Moon?
I can, and I don’t think I’m seeing things either. (The image hasn’t been edited, with the exception of cropping some dead space to the right of the Moon.)
I walked down to the beach with my dear friend Denise just before moonrise, found a good position, and patiently waited for the Moon to appear, thinking I’d get some wonderful photos. There was cloud obscuring the horizon, and the Moon was rather high before I caught sight of it.
As it turned out, moonrise was almost 30 minutes after sunset and five minutes after last light. The Moon looked amazing, initially aglow with a beautiful orange hue, but sadly it was too dark for my camera to take (what I consider) ‘good’ photos.
Though I have decided to share the following two photos also.
