Photo of the Week

This week’s Photo of the Week isn’t a photo at all.

Dean and I have had a most unusual week and for the first time in over two years, I didn’t take any photos.  Ok, slight correction – Last week the only photos I took were with my iPhone, and none are worthy of sharing, and therefore, I’ve gone seeking something I can share amongst the plethora of images I have and then finally decided on a movie.

It was taken at the UnderWater World Sea Life Aquarium two weeks ago after our morning of whale watching aboard Whale One.  Our cruise included complementary tickets to the aquarium and it was just what I needed to take my mind off feeling so ‘green’.

There are lots of things to see at the aquarium, but I particularly I loved watching the jellyfish.  Those I filmed are known as Moon Jelly or common jellyfish.

These fascinating creatures have translucent bodies and are easily recognised by their four horseshoe-shaped organs that are easily seen through the top of their bodies, known as their ‘bell’.  Even though they can grow to 40 centimetres in diameter (15.7 inches), they are only capable of limited motion and mostly drift with the current, even when they are swimming.

They are so graceful, and it was peaceful and relaxing just sitting there watching them floating around.
