Moving In and Getting Comfy

The car was packed, our son-in-law’s truck was packed, my brother-in-law’s box trailer was packed, and we were ready to take the 90 minute driving up the M1 Motorway to our new home in Caloundra.

That was Thursday and everything went according to plan, unlike the previous two days that had been tough and completely out of our control.  It’s amazing how one (seemingly minor) omission held up the council approval, which in turn held up the final payment, which in turn resulted in a slightly delayed handover.

The cascading effect of that one omission was almost beyond my stress level’s maximum setting.

Certainly, it was greater than the sum of my parts that allow me to sleep.

But today is Sunday and all of that is now behind us.  What lies ahead are all the items we told our builder we would do ourselves.  The fences need to be erected as soon as possible, security screens need to be ordered and installed, and sooner or later, we’ll need to make a start on the garden.

But!  Surprise, surprise!  The television antenna has been installed and the internet connected.

Who said I don’t have my priorities in order?

Actually, Priority No 1 was assembling our bed.  I did say in my last post, that I was looking forward to sleeping in my own bed, that it would “. . . feel like a heaven on earth.”  And thankfully it does.   After two full days of making inroads on unpacking and organising our household possessions that have been Packed, Stacked and Racked since the end of September 2014, that bed is just what my body needs.

My feet are burning, my legs are aching, my arms are telling me they actually contain muscle tissue and my back – actually, I’m not going there.

It’s a wonderful feeling to (finally) be living in our new home I’ve spent a bit of time reacquainting myself with my handbags.  Dean laughed when I said, “Hello old friends.”  And then there are my shoes, and my clothes, most of which I’d forgotten I’d owned.  I think it’s funny how I managed with so little while travelling, though to be honest, I did get tired of looking at photos and seeing myself wearing the same shirt over and over.

So today, the unpacking will continue and photos of our new home will follow once that’s complete.  This morning I’m going to attack my new pantry and organise it somewhat before the groceries I ordered online arrive and I don’t know where to put them.

Our new home is big and roomy, it’s cool and cosy, it’s more than we could ever have imagined or hoped for, and it’s all ours.

I gave Dean something to laugh about this morning when I said:

“Our bedroom, this space where we sleep, is larger than our entire mini home.”

  1. NOW I can breathe a big sigh of relief. At last it’s yours!!! Your comment about the clothes made me smile and gave me something to ponder on: “I think it’s funny how I managed with so little while travelling…” That right there is a jewel of a thing to learn from this. I don’t think any of us are aware of just how little we can do with and how much we really have. Might make the world a better place if we did…

    1. Oh Sue, it is wonderful to finally be in our new home and we have loved Caloundra for so long now, it is such a pleasure to now call it home. I’m looking forward to getting back to my usual blogging habits when we settled in, and can’t wait to take (more) photos of our little abode.
