Beautiful Broms

Yesterday I tottled off to Sunny Broms – the 19th Australasian Bromeliad Conference hosted by the Sunshine Coast Bromeliad Society Inc. at The Events Centre in the heart of Caloundra.  This conference is only held every two years and what a delight that it was here, in our new hometown.

The truth be told though, I wasn’t attending the conference, just looking at and appreciating the displays, and thanx to my friend Muriel (who asked me to accompany her), I was amazed at how gorgeous the bromeliads were.  I never realised they were so exquisite.

The flowers were surprisingly beautiful and beyond stunning.

The colours were incredible.

I oohed and aahed my way around with a stupid grin all over my face.  I tried to photograph the Grand Champion but, in all honesty, my photos do not do it justice.

The displays were superb, full of colour and carefully constructed to show off how wonderful these plants really are.

But the display that stole the show (in my opinion), was this one.

That ‘Pineapple’ must have stood at least 8 feet tall. WOW!  And this was only one section of the display.

I even came home with a little keepsake.  I hope I can care for it correctly and continue to appreciate the lovely flowers it produces.

  1. O my lord Clare, I have absolutely 1000’s of broms which all have pups to share, should have come down for a drive and an overnighter and gone home with a car load…great landscaping plant, virtually no care!!

I'd love to hear your thoughts . . .
