A Bloomin’ Good Time

With blue skies and sunshine, my camera in hand, and its battery fully charged, I headed out into my garden to take a few ‘happy snaps’.

So, as promised last weekend, the following is a bit of a ‘pictorial’ update on how the garden is coming along.  Certainly, everything is loving the warmer weather and, following a glorious 88 mm drenching last Tuesday (3.4 inches of rain), it’s lovely to see my plants ‘singing’ so to speak.

I have a Walking Iris blooming, a variegated Hippeastrum in flower, and a white Agapanthus opening up.  And I know my Facebook friends have already seen the photos of my hippeastrum and agapanthus, but they’ll just have to appreciate them all over again 🙂

In a previous life I have grown agapanthus, but only violet or blue and never white.  I’ve also grown hippeastrums before but have to say this variegated one seems so beautiful.  Perhaps because it came from my Aunty who passed away a few months ago.  “Look at your flower Aunty Pat!”

As for the rest of the garden, it’s growing and blooming and providing me with such joy.

I have a tomato vine growing all over one of my bromeliads and I’m not sure if the fruit looks better on the vine, or in my salad.

It’s a prickly affair trying to pick them without the bromeliad pricking me, but the few scrapes and scratches I endure are worth the reward.

I lost all the little limes on my tree.  They all fell off before any of them could develop into some semblance of fruit.  But there are new flowers beginning to form and I’m hopeful this time something sweet and juicy results.

My ferns seem larger each weekend.  I didn’t expect a small hit of fertiliser to impact them as it has, and I’m amazed at not only how they are growing, but that they are so full of new shoots.

By far though, my favourite succulents are my jades.

“Why?” You ask.

Because we live in Jade Crescent and, as far as I’m concerned, that makes it the luckiest street in our entire neighbourhood.

My efforts at photographing my ‘green wall’ were not good enough to share.  Cloud cover, shade and/or too much sunlight have caused the photos to be less than worthy of sharing.   Perhaps later today the light will be right.  Perhaps not.  I’ll just keep trying and will upload a photo when I get one good enough.

Even so, as you can see, the garden (my garden) is coming along very nicely.

All I need now is for the grasshoppers to go away, and everything (including me) would be much happier.  My friend Muriel assures me, they (the grasshoppers) will be gone in a few weeks.  I only hope they don’t eat too much in the meantime.
