As I’ve been travelling up and down the driveway lately, my eyes have been cast down, enjoying the Hibiscus flowers that have been blooming on my little shrub.
But I should have looked up, at least once or twice over the past few weeks on my way to or from work. Finally, I did today and noticed (to my absolute delight) that I too can grow flowers on spiky plants.

I know I’m a little late to Becky’s Spiky Squares during March, but I’m sure she will forgive me.

This is one of my Yuccas which is a genus of perennial shrubs and trees in the Asparagaceae, family of plants. I have a few other plants that belong to the Asparagaceae family, and I must say, I was quite surprised to read the Yucca is a relation. All that aside, my good friend Denise gave me two to Yuccas to plant in my front garden when I had nothing to plant there.
Two years down the track, they are big and beautiful, and now one is in flower. I can stop being jealous of all the other gardens that are currently festooned with flowering Yuccas.

How fabulous that you have a blooming yucca!

This is beautiful, love the backdrop of the blue sky. I had one of these plants, it took over the space.

Thanx Cee, and it will be incredible when it opens fully – I’m guessing approx. three feet tall. More photos will follow 🙂

Lovely. I have a photo of a yucca today, but not mine, although I do have one. It might take a few years to reach the flowering stage though!
