(Not that it needed it.)

This is my next entry in Becky’s January Squares Photo Challenge – Up.
In case you’re wondering: This is an Australian Crab Spider (or White Crab Spider) and their bites are venomous producing mild (but significant) effects on humans ranging from localized pain, redness, dizziness, headaches, nausea, and swelling. Luckily, the symptoms generally subside after 1-2 hours, and equally lucky, it did not bite me.
At least it isn’t one of the deadliest creatures you have over there. He blended in so well that it took me a minute to see him. 🙂

I moved leaves, removed dead blooms, and took several photos before I noticed him. Glad he was (perhaps) still a little sleepy.

Good thing too! I just got chills at the thought of it. LOL! 🙂

Thank you 🙂 – and I guess that’s one way to look at it.

Doesn’t look as scary because it is white but seems like there’s a lot of bad side effects after being bitten.

I certainly do not wish to be bitten.

That’s a very cool spider. I hope the bite is purely defensive.

Unfortunately no, hence the increased blood pressure 😊

Oh my goodness!
I never was frightened of spiders until I was bit by a brown recluse spider. Two rounds of antibiotics and finally the area around the bite healed but it took about 6 weeks!

Ouch. That would have been horrible. I am not a fan of eight legged scaremongers.

I had no idea they could even bite, the ones I’ve seen have been very tiny. Stupidly, the spiders that give me the heebie jeebies are the relatively harmless Hunstman spiders.

😊😊😊 this one was big enough to give me a start and I don’t like any kind of spider – not even daddy long legs.

I did wonder if it might have venom. The ones we have here are all safe so far as I know, other than the odd one that hitches a lift on bananas.

Ooh I was so excited to see you have them too, that was until I read that yours have a nasty bite!

I certainly hope I never get so close to one that it gives me a little bite.

So do I – you have so many things that have nasty bites!

I know! We are so lucky – they are in the water, on the ground, up trees, and anywhere else you care to imagine 😂

I guess it’s because we’re an island – albeit, the biggest – and our predators have no predators themselves.
