Just over a week ago, Becky announced the theme for October Squares – Past.
Becky has asked her Squarers to share some memories, personal favourites, leftover squares or to simply have fun with a theme (or two) that we may have missed or wanted to try.
In her own words, Becky says we can:
- Re-post a previous square post which at the time didn’t get the attention it deserved
- Share one or more leftover squares from a previous theme that you loved
- Share a new photograph that would have been perfect for a previous theme
- Or if you have not been squaring for very long why not pick a theme you missed and share thirty one squares of that theme
- Alternatively have fun with the word ‘past’ by sharing squares of history and heritage, and that includes past holidays!
Becky is always so generous with suggestions for how we can approach her challenge. However . . . the only one, absolute rule is:
Your main photograph must be square in shape!

After a week of pondering, I’ve chosen to revisit past favourites.
And there are lots to chose from.

Becky’s first square was Day One of Square in September back in 2017. Her first theme was Flower – a subject matter I would have revelled in – but it would be another year before I became aware of Becky and her fabulous blog.
Needless to say, my virtual connection with Becky has become very important to me.
My first Square was In the Pink for (funnily enough) In the Pink Squares in September 2018 and throughout the month I did revel in sharing square images of the pink flowers in my garden. I had many more than I first thought.
Since then, there have been a couple of months where I was busy and struggled (Spiky and Top) and another when I undoubtedly got off to an unhurried start ok, a slow start (Up), but for the most part, I have posted every day of every other theme – all nine of them: In the Pink, (Christmas) Time, Blue (Moon) which just so happens to be my favourite, Lines, words containing the word ‘light’ – I chose Sunlight, Perspective, Kinda, Bright, and (most recently) Tree.
For Kinda Squares and Tree Squares, I chose to post a quote from ‘someone who said something’ and mentioned to Becky that, moving forward, this may become the way I choose to approach her challenges. With the opportunity to now look back over the past three years, I think I will have a lot of fun doing so.
Here’s the first quote I found that I can marry with a favourite square.

William Wordsworth
And here’s one of my favourite Past Squares that I believe fits the quote.

I think it will be important to also include a link to the original post, so I’ll do that too.
This photo was originally featured in October Squares – Final Review and Wrap Up as part of Becky’s Lines & Squares Photo Challenge in October 2019.
Yes, having written this post, I can now see that Past Squares is going to be a lot of fun and I thank Becky for giving her Squarers plenty of notice to decide and sort out how we approach October Squares this year.
The countdown is on.
Past Squares begins on October 1, 2021.

Me too 🥰 but I’m looking forward to the ‘leg work’. It makes the process of publishing (on time) much easier.

I probably won’t get to touch my camera this month but have 20 shortlisted so far from only four previous challenges. I can see I have a lot of work (pondering) ahead. This is not me complaining though 🥰

Hee hee, who’d have thought a rectangular shape would cause so much positive pondering!
