Bloganuary – Day 2

What is a road trip you would love to take?

–⋅ o ♥ o ⋅–

I’d like to say the road trip I’d like to take could be or should be, one of the following:

1. The Malt Whisky Trail in Scotland

2. The ALCAN Highway from Canada to Alaska

3. Route 66 in the United States of America

Heaven knows they are all on my bucket list.

But as a matter of interest, in December 2019, we came ever so close to booking our flights to Scotland to do that Malt Whisky Trail that sits at No 1 on the list.

What stopped me from doing so?

A strange little voice in the back of my head and as the WHO declared Covid a virus of concern, our international borders were closed, and we were so pleased we didn’t have the heartache of fighting a travel insurance company for the return of our hard-earned money. (Some people are still fighting.)

As for us, we counted our blessings and put all of our holiday money on our home loan. We are now the proud owners of our little abode and, as we edge closer towards retirement, being debt free feels very good.

So right now, more than two years after not paying for a holiday to Scotland and with the world being the way it is, (thank you, Covid), in all honesty, I’d prefer to retrace the steps Dean and I took on home soil.

For twenty months between 2014 and 2016, we towed a caravan around Australia . . .

. . . loving living and laughing all the way.

For us, it was our trip of a lifetime and we would do it all again in a heartbeat.

The Great Diving Range, just south of Townsville, North Queensland.

  1. You’re the only person I’ve seen who’s said, “Thank you, Covid” even if it was tongue in cheek! 🙂
Where did you find the day’s prompt? I’m not getting the emails for some reason.

    1. Being debt free does feel wonderful and a sweet reward for all our hard work.

My youngest daughter and her husband did R66 and loved it. Remembering how much I loved crossing our Nullarbor Plain, R66 would be terrific.
