Bloganuary – Day 16

What is a cause you’re passionate about and why?

This sounds like a twist on a question in a job interview.

“Tell us about your strengths”

What is your main weakness?”

“What are you passionate about?”

My initial reaction was that there’s no cause I’m passionate about, not in the true sense of ‘a cause’. I’m not an activist for anything, I don’t campaign for things, and (so far in my life) I’ve never joined a protest. That’s just not who I am.

But just because I don’t engage in those types of activities it doesn’t mean I fail to get emotional about other aspects of my life such as:

  1. My relationships with my family and my friends – because they are the people in my life who mean the most to me, the people I spend most of my time with, and the people who have the biggest influence on my life.
  2. My own health and wellbeing – because this is the body I have and physical health and wellbeing drives (and correlates with) my mental health and wellbeing and, to the best of my knowledge, no one has developed a whole-body transplant (yet). This is the body I’ve been given and I’m the one who must look after it.
  3. Broadening my horizons – learning is the gift that keeps on giving and I love learning new things, nurturing my mind, and improving my knowledge.
  4. Gardening and growing it forward – my little hobby of caring for and enjoying the growth of plants in my garden gives me a lot of joy. Propagating them and gifting them to friends (aka – growing it forward) is a simple pleasure that warms my heart.

At the end of the day – and it is now after considering this prompt all day – I believe we shouldn’t be ashamed of it whatever it is that we’re passionate about.

No matter how trivial, boring, or stupid other’s might think it is, if it’s your passion and it matters to you, then that’s all that matters.

It’s such a pleasure to witness the successful propagation of my Syngonium ‘Fantasy’.
