Bloganuary – Day 27

Where do you go when you need solitude?

–⋅ o ♥ o ⋅–

Once upon a time, not so long ago, when seeking solitude I would take myself off to the movie theatre to see the latest rom-com. I’d get a serving of popcorn and a drink to wash it down with, find the best seat in the house – not too close, not too far, not to the left nor to the right, but more or less right in the middle – and sit back and get lost in a cinematic imagining of another world.

It was bliss.

Notting Hill, Love Actually, My Best Friends Wedding and Sleepless in Seattle to mention a few of the most unforgettable were enjoyed in this manner.

And then the world went crazy in early 2020 and I’ve not been inside a movie theatre since.

What I do now to enjoy a little time to myself is put on my walking shoes, plug in my AirPods so I can listen to some music or a podcast, and go for a walk. I usually disappear somewhere around the neighbourhood and, what was once a (rushed) 30 minute “Oh bother, I haven’t been for a walk yet – I guess I better go“, has become a 60+ minute:

Be back in and hour or so!

The pandemic has caused a lot of things to change and has been the reason for making a lot of changes. Dean and I upgraded our television to a larger model and we now have a mini cinematic experience in our own home. We also get to enjoy movies without other people talking or blocking our view. The picture on our new TV is amazing – and the sound system we have is pretty schmick (aka excellent) also.

I will admit walking is not the same as going to the movies for some alone time.

But it is ‘me time’ that I get to enjoy every day* – and that makes it so much better.
