Just the Five of Us

We’ve just had the most wonderful weekend with our three daughters – Kate, Shelley and Moo.

It’s been a long time since just the five of us were together.

We thought long and hard about when that last time might have been and came up with either some time in late 2003 or early 2004. But now that I’m putting more thought into it, I think it may have been early 2005.

Kate had moved out of home in 2003 but would always come over for dinner on Sunday night – the night of the week when we always had a traditional Sunday roast. So, naturally, with it being just the five of us, we had to have a traditional roast dinner on Sunday night.

Yum, yum. Roast chicken with all the trimmings.

Kate lives an hour away by car and we’re lucky we get to see her all the time, but Shelley and Moo live in Melbourne – a two-hour flight away. Covid lockdowns and restrictions have kept all of us apart since December 2019 and although Shelley and Troy spent Christmas 2021 with us (just after the restrictions were lifted) Moo and her husband Steve weren’t able to.

But what a lovely surprise for Kate with her little sisters flying in to celebrate her birthday with her.

There were tears and laughter, and more good times and lovely memories to store away. And we packed in as much as we could – we went shopping, we went to the markets, we went to a local cafe for breakfast, we watched a silly movie, we ate, we drank – we had a wonderful time.

And of course, we couldn’t miss the opportunity to take a new family photo.

Back Row – Melissa (Moo) and Dean
Front Row – Kathryn (Kate), Michelle (Shelley) and Me.

But the following photo is my favourite.

Yep – I love this 💜

I have to add: Over the weekend, the computer was turned off, iPhones were down, and the television was only turned on for a minimal amount of time. This was lovely – and refreshing.

    1. Thank you, Nancy. I have missed spending time with our girls and I know they’ve missed spending time with us too. Poor Melissa burst into tears when she saw us, and then I burst into tears – and then we laughed, and then we cried and then we laughed some more. I can hardly wait to see them again. 🥰 I was missing them the moment they left.
