I’m Back 🥰

Not that I’ve been anywhere. Gosh, wouldn’t a holiday anywhere be nice?

So no, I haven’t been lazing around poolside, reclining on a banana lounge, sipping a piña colada from a freshly shucked coconut.

I can’t even admit to having enjoyed a relaxing staycay.

Even that would have made my ‘Top 10 things to do‘ list.

No, sadly (for me) I’ve been unwell and this has zapped all of my energy. I’ve not had Covid (phew) nor have I been in bed with the seasonal flu, but I have had a nasty, persistent tummy bug that has required two rounds of antibiotics to shift.

The bug made me sick, the cure wasn’t much better and, a week after finishing all the drugs, I’m still nursing a sensitive digestive system.

Thank goodness Dean was able to feed himself. I’ve been so nauseous I’ve had flashbacks of my pregnancies when I was unable to abide the smell of anything cooking much less the look of food in general.

Huge thanks go out to Ermal Fraze, the American who, in 1959, devised the ring pull can-opening method that would come to dominate the canned beverage market and, although we don’t have ring pulls on all tin food, we do have them on cans of Baked Beans. And with each can containing three serves of vegetables, at least Dean was getting some vegetables, even if it was the same three every day.

I think he’d started to look like a baked bean and know he is ever so pleased that I have been able to cook these past few days.

Mother’s Day came and went over this past weekend, and although I might have been ‘home alone’ on the morning of Mother’s Day, that’s not to say I wasn’t spoilt. Yeah for FaceTime and video calls with our two daughters who live in Melbourne and the day before, Dean and I went down to Brisbane to spend the day with Kate.

The plan was to go to a wonderful Thai restaurant for lunch – and we did, and it was wonderful.

But before lunch, we went to an exhibit called Imaginaria – ‘a fun, immersive experience designed for all ages’.  With a combination of (someone’s) imagination and some funky technology, the end result is a stunning audio-visual play experience – from the future.

We may have been the eldest ones there but we had just as much fun as the kids did – if not more.

The face is Adam, and talking with him was fun.

There were light and sound exhibits to explore everywhere and, with your entry ticket allowing you an hour to investigate and enjoy all that was on offer, the cost of admission was well worth the fun on offer.

I even slid down a slippery slide – with a lot of coaxing from Dean and Kate I must add.

By far though, the most amount of fun was playing with the exhibit I’ll call ‘The Light Tubes’.

They were (lots of) soft plastic tubes suspended from the ceiling in (lots of) concentric circles. These tubes caught the ever-changing laser lights that were focused on them from various positions around the room. The effect was amazing and so much fun.

I thought I was going the fall over at one stage.

But that just made me laugh all the more.

It was such a fun experience and the three of us had a lovely day.

I have to admit, it is wonderful to be feeling better.

And I was able to spoil myself with (a special) breakfast on Mother’s Day.

(I enjoyed every mouthful.)

Yum, Yum! Banana Pancakes
with caramelised banana, toasted almonds and chantilly cream.
(Happy Mother’s Day to me.)

Happy (belated) Mother’s Day to all the mums out there.

    1. I’m feeling much better now. (Sure hope I don’t come across that bug again, it was nasty.) I made those pancakes in my Pie Maker – it was so easy – and they were so yummy. My friend said she’ll be over for pancakes this Sunday 🥰 (if she can get out of bed early enough 🤣)
