Jocelyn made my day on Saturday and while doing so isn’t much in the scheme of things, it meant a lot to me.

I don’t eat a lot of bread. I can’t. It upsets my stomach, and as I gallop towards my senior years, the impact on my digestive system has only intensified.
So I choose to not eat bread every day. In fact, I only have bread twice a week – on Saturday mornings when Dean and I enjoy brunch together after he’s had a surf, and one evening through the week when we have a homemade burger for dinner.
But I must be careful regarding the type of bread I choose.
Enter a (not quite so local) bakery that sells their products at nearby local IGA supermarkets and their delightful handmade Turkish Rolls.
I discovered these rolls don’t upset my stomach and became a huge fan. HUGE!
Imagine my disappointment when my neighbourhood IGA severed their connection with the bakery. My despondency was only magnified when the other nearby IGA stores continued to sell the bakery’s products but not their Turkish Rolls. I even asked if they’d consider stocking them to be told ‘No!’.
So I sat on this while I tried all manner of other bread products trying to find another that would be kind to my digestive system. Over the course of six months, I had no luck.
I started thinking I could drive to the bakery myself, but the bakery isn’t just around the corner, it’s an hour away and what if I got there and they didn’t have any because the ‘batch’ was spoilt? That happens and an hour there and an hour back is a long way to drive for nothing.
What if I asked the IGA to order some for me? Maybe they’d do that, but then, maybe they wouldn’t. Why would they do a special order for a product they don’t stock?
What if I ordered some from the bakery myself and asked them to delivery them to my home?
That could work because on their delivery route between the stores that sell their products they (almost) drive past my front door, AND, because the rolls freeze so well, I would only place an order once a month.
I have pondered this resolution for quite some time so I emailed the bakery to ask exactly that. On Saturday it was raining and miserable and I accomplished a lot of ‘life admin’ sitting at my desk unable to do much else.
Jocelyn replied within minutes. “You’ll be happy to know that Baringa IGA have just started selling our Turkish rolls and they are receiving 12 x 4 packs tomorrow morning.”
Happy? Happy? Happy doesn’t come close to describing my emotional state.
Jocelyn’s message continued. “Please let me know if you have any trouble sourcing them from Baringa and if you need an unusual amount just ask for Jan in the bakery and she can order more for you!!”
She used two exclamation points – TWO!! (I’m laughing about that at the moment.)

So Jocelyn made my day on Saturday. I emailed her back to say exactly that, to thank her and to confess that “I have missed these rolls more than I can admit 😊”.
I had precious little to do yesterday (Sunday) beyond purchasing some Turkish Rolls and making burgers for dinner. There are lots of other things I did throughout the day, but they pale in comparison to enjoying our evening meal.
I have no recipe for these burgers but they consist of the following:
- Peri Peri mayo
- Rocket (arugula)
- Beetroot slices
- Grated tasty cheese
- Chicken schnitzel
- BBQ sauce
In that order on a lightly toasted Turkish Roll from the Noosa Gourmet Bakery.
