Bloganuary – Day 10

Has a book changed your life?

The cursor has been blinking at me for some time now.

I took a time out and went for my morning walk – all one hour, one minute and one second of it spent thinking whether or not I could identify a single book that has changed my life.

After I had my breakfast, I sat here again looking at the blinking cursor.

When Dean arrived home from his morning surf, I took another time out – another hour or so to do the weekly grocery shop – and I’m back here again still looking at the blinking cursor trying to identify whether or not any book has changed my life.

So, in all honesty, all I can say quite definitely is – NO!

I love to read and try to read books of all types of genres – fiction and non-fiction, autobiographies, fantasy and sci-fi. The fantasy genre is my favourite because I love being transported to another world. (Read into that what you will.)

I love reading children’s books and I’ve read plenty of books that have had an effect on me. I remember a time when I had my head so far into the words on the pages that I stayed awake all night just to reach the story’s conclusion. Another had me sitting around all day doing nothing else beyond consuming the words.

I’ve also devoured a book that held a gripping tale and then all but fallen over myself to get to the bookstore to purchase the next instalment.

I’ve given my children books to read because those books were dear to me and have loved conversing with my girls regarding any effect those books may have had on them.

I’ve sobbed over the sadness and honesty found on some pages while other pages have had me shedding tears of laughter.

I’ve read some books more than once, and a few three or four times.

Those are the stories I truly love.

But no one book has changed my life.

There have been plenty of events in my life that have had a profound effect on me but, I guess, I’m fortunate enough to say no one event has changed my life either.

I don’t know how my life would or could be different because I believe my life is my life and, from the time I was just a baby in my mother’s arms, my life has panned out exactly as planned.
