There’s always a certain element of ‘buzz’ when a fellow blogger rewards you for your efforts and without a doubt, this amazing award arrived accompanied by a wonderful surprise.
A huge thank you goes to Hilary at Japan Can(ada) Mix for recognising me for The Sisterhood of the World Blogger Award.
This award recognises the unique voices of women bloggers around the world.
Hilary bestowed this prestigious blogging award upon me stating: “If you want to know about back corners and interesting bits of Australia, Clare is the woman to go to. She’s been exploring her home country of Australia with her husband from the comforts of their camper and occasionally staying put for longer stretches house sitting.”
Hilary is Canadian and her husband Hitoshi is Japanese and in her own words, they are “figuring out how to help our wee one straddle multiple cultures and our birth countries.”

Hilary’s Three Questions
1. What’s a hobby you used to be really enthusiastic about but don’t do any more?
To be honest, I really can’t think of any hobby per se. There are lots of things I’m not doing at the moment that I miss – spending time with our daughters, attending Toastmaster meetings, coffee with friends – but there are so many other things we are doing that make up for that. In the last eight months, we have had the pleasure to see and enjoy the sun, the sand and the snow in some of the most amazing parts of our beautiful country.
2. What’s your top piece of advice you seem to keep giving others?
“Everything happens for a reason. You may not know, right here, right now, exactly what that reason is, but sooner or later, you’ll turn around and know exactly why thing happened as they did.” I’ve been telling our daughters this for years, so long in fact, that they now believe my words ring true.
3. What do you hope will change or stay the same in the next ten years?
By the year 2025, I really hope that Dean and I have retired. Ok, at the moment we are semi-retired, but this is only a temporary thing while we travel around Australia. Neither of us are old enough, nor do we have enough money to not return to work when we have finished travelling.
